The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Space Program invites you to join us at the 2012 Open Studios, presenting new work by  Katie Bell, Miriam Bloom, Kate Clark, Peter Demos, Evie Falci, Lucy Fradkin, Rachel Hayes, Elana Herzog, Susan Homer, Jerome Marshak, Katherine Newbegin, John J. O'Connor, Mia Pearlman, Antonia Perez, Erika Ranee, Claire Watkins, and Randy Wray.

The Space Program, offered by The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation along with a consortium of funders, including Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation, Inc., The Robert Sterling Clark Visual Arts Space Award, The Richard Florsheim Art Fund Award for Older Artists, The Greenwich Collection Ltd., and Agnes Gund, announces grants of studio space to 17 visual artists selected from more than 1,100 applicants. A jury consisting of artists Tara Donovan, Janet Fish, Robert Kushner, Tracy Miller, and Fred Tomaselli selected the grantees for The Space Program.

Exhibition Overview:

Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (BSRC), the Pratt Center for Community Development, and the Pratt Initiative for Arts, Community, and Social Change (IACSC) are pleased to celebrate the presentation of “Amplify Action: Sustainability through the Arts”, a juried exhibition of works presented by the Skylight Gallery, a department of BSRC’s Center for Arts and Culture, created both by local artists and artists abroad that promote a dialogue about sustainable communities. The exhibition includes paintings, photography, sculptures, mixed media, installations and innovative approaches to re-purpose waste into useful art materials and activism toward sustainable practices in the Bedford Stuyvesant community. This exhibit is made possible by the generous support of the Rockefeller Foundation’s Cultural Innovation Fund.

This exhibition demonstrates how arts, culture, and media are powerful catalysts for social change, and aims to engage neighborhoods in a dialogue about sustainable living, making healthy consumer choices, and taking environmental action. Works in the exhibit will directly and indirectly examine the different components of sustainability, such as, but not limited to: ecology, economy, equity, environmental consciousness, resource conservation and efficiency, agriculture, architecture, infrastructure, environmental justice, and health.

Plastic Flower Power

Curtains at Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning

My two crocheted plastic bag curtains are installed at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in Queens. They are part of a three month exhibition, the culminating event of a year-long professional development program called JCAL Studio LLC 2011, headed by Heng-gil Han. Take a trip out there to see Curtains in person as well as some really nice work by the other members of the program. Participating artists include:

November and December 2011: Very Busy

Its been a hectic work period in the studio for the last two months. On Nov 18th I deinstalled Black Lace and brought it back to the studio just in time to hang it with Red Doily for the open studios. I also made a new Tissue Box Convertible Wall Installation and began working on a curtain piece for the Jamaica Center of Arts and Learning to open December 14th.
